Injury and poverty did not stop 16 year old Zeba to be literate

Ms. Zeba daughter of Mohammad Isaq who currently lives in Nadir Alimi Street, Nahrishahi district in Balkh province was one of the intelligent and hardworking literacy learners who recently graduated from the IR nine-month literacy program.

Zeba lost her beauty and fingers due to bone fire while she was only a year old and she could not attend school due to this problem as she was reluctant to appear in the public due to scars or burns on her face. She was not properly treated post burning due to poverty which consequently the signs of burns remained on her face forever. Besides burning, poverty was the second main reason which stopped her from attending school at the early age. She has encountered a lot of problems in her life due to illiteracy. When she grew up, she regretted so much that why she did not attend school.

She enrolled in the literacy course established in her area of residence by IR during 2017. She was attending the course with huge passion to learn every day and was one of the most intelligent and active students in the class. She has recently graduated from the nine month course and managed to learn literacy and basic numeracy. She is determined to continue learning education and is going to enroll in vital literacy high school, although she has problem to go to school daily as the school is around 5 km away from her residential area.
