Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) is a UK based international relief and development charity, which envisages a caring world where people unite to respond to the suffering of others, empowering them to fulfill their potential. We are an independent Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) founded in the UK in 1984.
Islamic Relief Afghanistan (IRA) is a branch of IRW, which has initiated its Afghanistan humanitarian and development activities in 1992, starting with work for Afghan refugees in Pakistan. Since then, IRA has continued to provide assistance in different fields such as sustainable livelihood, women development, child welfare, disaster risk reduction, emergency response, health and nutrition and education. Currently, IRA is working in 4 regions and 8 provinces in the Central, North, East and Central highland of Afghanistan. IRA has developed the strong partnership with UN, INGO’s, NGO’s and local communities in Afghanistan. IRA has served as co-chair of the Food Security and Agriculture Cluster (FSAC) for one year at the national and regional level in Afghanistan. This has additionally supported IR Afghanistan to contact various communities and get in-depth knowledge of Afghan society context. Islamic Relief is committed to staying in Afghanistan and is rapidly increasing its programmes and areas of operation in the country.
Islamic relief Afghanistan is currently working to promote sustainable economic and social development of poor vulnerable communities especially women through providing home-based education and skill development vocational training in Bamyan and Nangarhar provinces. Moreover; IR Afghanistan is working with local communities to eradicate poverty, illiteracy, and diseases through several programs such as winterization assistance, provision of livelihood development schemes, and providing educational opportunity through SEHAT (supporting education through Health assistance and treatment) programs. In addition to that IR Afghanistan has kept a record of responding emergencies within 72 hours in all over Afghanistan. Islamic Relief provides support regardless of religion, ethnicity or gender and without expecting anything in return.
