3072 women graduated from literacy courses of IRW in three Provinces of Afghanistan

Islamic Relief Worldwide has been providing education and skill development classes for women in remote and underserved areas of the country through Home Based Education for Women in Afghanistan (HBEWA ) Project. The aim of the project is to provide literacy training, skill development as a mean of livelihood and health, hygiene and sanitation awareness for women of the most vulnerable community in Balkh, Bamyan and Nangarhar provinces. The first phase (cycle) of the project successfully completed in February 2018, which 3072 women got the skills of reading, writing and basic numeracy. On the honor of this occasion IRW with close cooperation of provincial education directorate of Balkh province conducted a ceremony to appreciate the women day (8th March) and also deliver the certificate of the graduation to these women. In the ceremony the provincial officials, parliament members, civil sociality and family of the women students have been participated. The government, civil society and community elders thanked and appreciated the effective work of the Islamic Relief and hoped further expansions of the activities in the country. Similarly, the media also broadcasted the event in different local and national TVs including their interview with the graduated women. One of the graduated students, Sister Fatima says “before joining the literacy classes I could not read and write, but now I am able to read billboards, dial phone number and add the credit card on my mobile phone and sometimes I support my kids in their school lessons”.
