Bangladesh

Islamic Relief began working in Bangladesh in 1991, providing humanitarian aid to communities hit by a devastating tropical cyclone.

Today, we continue to deliver emergency assistance as well as development projects – which include a major focus on disaster risk reduction. This sees us working with vulnerable communities to strengthen their resilience to natural disasters, and promoting disaster risk reduction across the country.

Islamic micro-finance and sustainable livelihoods are other major focus areas, with projects providing poor people with the skills and resources to lift themselves out of poverty.

Our child welfare programme is also seeing significant innovations in Bangladesh, and includes a project to give working children viable and safe alternatives to hazardous labour.
