Islamic Relief Russia has been working in the North Caucasus, Russia, since 1995. Our administrative office is in Nalchik (Kabardino-Balkaria), and our implementation office is in Grozny (Chechen Republic).

During conflict between Russia and Chechnya, Islamic Relief was amongst the few international organisations working in the area. We provided food and shelter, health care and mobile clinics, water and sanitation, and also established and managed camps for displaced people.

Later, we repaired schools and other educational facilities, as well as hospitals and health centres and water services. Other projects enabled farming families to rebuild their livelihoods.

As we focused on development, we equipped almost 50 secondary schools with centres offering vocational training for boys and girls. People with hearing impairments are learning mainstream skills through our development centre. We have also improved facilities for people with learning disabilities as well as those for and orphaned children.

Poor families benefit from access to our Islamic micro-finance scheme, and families with children who are maimed or orphaned also receive enterprise training and grants designed to improve their livelihoods. Islamic Relief delivers Ramadan and Qurbani distributions every year in the North Caucasus, and more than 2,000 orphaned children benefit from our sponsorship programme.
